Baby Oskar

Stuck for over a year.
Here's where I left off with the baby Oskar ...

I reworked the skirt and primed the head. The most difficult part is the mid section which took two tries to get it to this stage.

I am stuck at this stage, as I think the mid section is too high and usually in an SD design, it's almost non existent. I might need to fine tune the overall design before I continue.

Incidentally, much has changed in the way I blog. Prevously I used a compact digital camera and a netbook which was slower.
Now I take pictures with my iPhone and blog with it directly, sometimes switching to my ipad2 to edit.
The text entry on iPhone is not as good as a real keyboard but the ease of blogging is really good.

Baby Ma.K - Oskar WIP 4

Hope it made you laugh!
I was stuck quite a bit doing the rest of the Neuspotter body using plaplate (layers of it)
and also adding the bondite epoxy putty to the skirt. This is how it looks like today.

I apologise I did not manage to finish this before the PLAMO and the m workshop groupbuild deadline.
I can only work late nights for so many nights...

Comments and criticisms please, like how's the proportion, shape... thx!

Baby Ma.K - Oskar WIP 3a

Thanks guys for the support so far!
was trying to cut the tube, which is a part of a broken furniture, with the modeling saw. Cut until my fingers hurt.

So frustrated, I went to the local DIY shop and bought a large saw...

Cut the damn thing in under a minute..

Baby Ma.K - Oskar WIP 3

Small update, yesterday I firmed up the shape with the second type of epoxy putty which I love to use as it cures much slower.
Today, after it cured fully, I went over with my files to define the shape, and then smoothed over the head with lots of Mr Hobby white putty (I can't seem to find my favourite Tamiya grey putty).
First time using Mr Hobby, its more yellowish than white...

Realized the cylinder in grey is too long, tried to cut it, but its kinda hard. I will try to cut it again tomorrow... Time for bed! yawn

Baby Ma.K - Oskar WIP 2

This time I am doing a bit more planning than before, I first cut one of the quail eggs in half,
then trace out its shape on a piece of paper. Using the Neuspotter head as a reference, I drew the shape of the SD head.

Next, using bits from my spares bin and the very fast drying epoxy, I started slapping the shape together.

As for the bodies, the shell is very flimsy, so I filled them with paper clay...

Its now 12:30am, and I think its gonna be a long long time (to Elton John's Rocket Man tune) before I sleep today.
lol. Seriously, I truly enjoy the building part of modeling, and all the stress from work and life just disappears...
Am I going to be able to finish it on time?
That's a good question... ;D

Baby Ma.K - Oskar WIP 1

Hey guys, its actually the Oskar. It has a Neuspotter head with a hovercraft body.
Its not as well known because there is currently no styrene kit available.

Just doing a mock-up using blu-tack tonight and finding bits for my spares box...The original rocket launcher seems to be scratch-build from a pen cap. Here I used the cap of the hobby knife which has a similar shape.
The Oskar variant on the back is what I want to make...

Oskar WIP

Hi all, the computer decided not to die after all, and I quickly started scanning the WIP. This is a great article (unfortunately I only have part 1 of this).
Enjoy!

Sk362 Oskar (Modelkasten)

Another one of my favourite kits, the Oskar is my only Ma.K kit which is from Modelkasten and has resin parts included inside. Truly a multi-media kit, this features pieces of vacuum formed parts, one for the hull and the other for some parts, resin for the weapons and hull details, Neuspotter head and my favourite Eddy Amsel figure. This kit includes 2 different resin guns for the Oskar, a cannon and a linear gun. Won this kit also after a big fight at YAJ where it surfaces sometimes.
Take note that as the box is quite shallow, the 'bumps' on the main hull are often dented inwards. Fortunately for the kit I won, its only a slight dent. The bottom of the hull is not provided so need to scratch build.

The Strahl came up with the Oskar to save costs as the Neuspotter's anti-gravity unit costs a lot to produce and its also possible to give it heavier armament.

Thoughts
I really really love this kit, even more than the Gans or the Krachenvogel. Don't know why, could be the hull which is very cool but I've never built anything like this before. From the Ma.K picture book, it lost a fight with a Gladiator, but I believe its just as powerful. I am saving it until the last to ever sell when I need to sell...
